Long Time Ago
Hi,

I worked for the Omani Navy between 1976 to 1979 as a Radio Technician. I really enjoyed working at the Navy Base situated very near Sultan Qaboos Palace. We used to travel down in the back of an open Landrover from Seeb Army Base and in mid summer it was like being in a sauna. Another time I remember traveling up to deserted Telegraph Island on an Omani navy patrol boat situated in the straights of Hormuz and we stayed there for a week doing Communications testing to Muscat. My regret is that I did not take many photographs of Muscat and Oman in those times. I have since been back to Oman with my wife camping in beautiful wadi's. I will definately return again one day. I love the scenary of Oman. I have good memories of Oman.

I spent a few years in Oman from the late 70's through to 1985 and I'm still surprised at the difference between then and now. I used to go to Al Bustan when it was just a beach with a small fishing village. I see they built the hotel where I used to sit so someone has an eye for the best spot!! If anyone has pictures of Bait al Falaj, which was the old MOD headquarters but is now a Military Museum, I'd love to see them.

Wonderful shots! How come no pictures of camel caravans? I thought they were all over the area around the dunes. Next time take photos of the Empty Quarter ... these are wonderful.

As you can see my family name is Muscat... We are mostly Italian, but many people say we look like we are of Middle Eastern descent... THe family says we also had some connection to Malta... I just wonder if we could be from this beautiful place !
