Indeed, the Bush administration pulled the U.S. out of the Kyoto Agreement because it feels that it's too binding to the U.S. while being lenient to other countries. Also, it feels that those countries (& a few others) will not strictly abide by the Treaty. And though there's surely some truth to that claim, the U.S. is the world's only super power & so, we ought to lead by example. Also, we're one WEALTHY nation that uses up +30% of the world's energy [fossil fuel] & so, we really ought to lead the world in curbing CO2 emission. As the old saying goes, for any prosperity comes enormous responsibility. Hence, it really is our duty to lead the world in saving the planet instead of pulling-out. It's like, if we can lead the world in saving it against terrorism, then we ought to take the lead too in saving it from CO2.
