Panorama Mountain Village, BC
Panorama is located 180 km (112 miles) west Banff or 308 km (192 miles) west of Calgary.
Panorama is the place for Heli-Skiing in the Rockies. Downhill skiing here is EXCELLENT, as well as snowboarding and cross-country.
If you have ever said that you skied many places and nothing surprised you any more, I would have to disagree with you and say, "sorry fellow", but you are wrong!
This mountain village was built exclusively for people who like to be in the middle of the mountains, and is specialized to please any kind of skier. I who have skied many hills, in many places have to admit that that Panorama never disappoints me.
There are very nicely designed condominiums at the base of the ski slopes, with many restaurants, ski shops, pubs, and open air hot water swimming pools can amaze anyone!
The ski runs are very well groomed and prepared to challenge your skills andlegs. Wide open ski runs in large areas guarantee that you will have fun, no crowds and even a moment for absolute silence on the top of the mountain. The best skiing here is, in my opinion, from December to the middle of the March. Later in the season you can expect heavy and wet snow which is very hard on your legs! Plus, there may be early spring rain
Above, I mentioned the Heli-Skiing. Yes, yes this is a skier's paradise. You have to be at least an intermediate level skier, or better, advanced and all virgin snow is yours to conquer! Because heli-skiing is not allowed in the National Parks in western Canada, you should try your energy and adventurous spirit in the local mountains and nearby Purcell or the Bugaboos. My favored areas are the Monashees and Selkirks which are easily accessible from Nakusp, BC (see my journal on the Arrow Lakes) but still I like Panorama too. Anyway - here heli -skiing on an exposed glacier will give you the thrill of your lifetime. After all day on the slopes you should soak yourself in the hot pool at base of the ski slopes. Panorama should be on your list, if your are a serious skier and mountain lover.
