Iran produced many renowned scientists in earlier times. Persians made important contributions to algebra and chemistry, invented the wind-power machine, and discovered alcohol, among other things. Zakhariya Razi was an Iranian alchemist, chemist, physician, philosopher and scholar. He made important contributions in medicine, philosophy and alchemy that have lasted til this day. He recorded his work in over 184 books and articles. Razi was an early proponent of experimental medicine and is considered the father of pediatrics. He was also a pioneer of neurosurgery and ophthalmology. Iran is today experiencing a new scientific renaissance, but unfortunately the government is not allocating enough funds for Iran's young and sophisticated scientists and researchers.
