Storage Penalty Dropped

Wednesday, Jan 21, 2009
by Michael McDonald

I have dropped the ‘storage penalty’ and simplified how the personal photo storage limit works on Worldisround. This will only affect a few of you (Free users who have more than 500 personal photos), but it makes Worldisround act a lot nicer once you bump up against this limit.

Before, when the storage limit was exceeded your photos would become unviewable until you deleted enough photos to be back under the limit or you became a Premium member (with unlimited storage).

Now, when the storage limit is exceeded you can still view your photos. (You still won’t be able to upload any additional photos until you are back under the limit.)

Also, unpublished photos now count against the storage limit. This is actually a nicer policy, so that you won’t be surprised by going over the limit when you publish an article.

This change will only effect Free users who have more than 500 personal photos. (And because unpublished photos are now being counted against this 500 photo limit, a handful of users will find themselves over the storage limit.)

This limit does not effect travel photos. As always, travel photos are unlimited; the storage limits for Free accounts only apply to personal photos. I encourage you to post thousands, even millions, of travel photos! (And if you like the Worldisround system so much that you also want to post hundreds of snapshots of friends & family, I encourage you to upgrade to a Premium account.)

  • Great Site

I’m happy to pay the premium fee for such a great place to post photos. I have a Shelby Cobra build site that’s seen over 3/4 million views in the last 3 years.

  • Thank you

I have been a user for a very long time now, and WIR is still one of my favorite sites. Keep up the great work!
