- About Me
-
Michael McDonald, CEO.
Michael built Worldisround almost single-handedly from the ground
up as it grew from concept to a mature photo-sharing site with more
than 6,000,000 photos. In 2006 when David Hariton stopped funding the site,
Michael took over as CEO.
Michael is also the founder of Animist
("Think less. Do more."),
a startup company offering productivity solutions for busy people.
Animist's first product, Animist Notes ("Remember everything."),
is a deceptively simple Web-based service for writing and searching notes.
A word from Worldisround's founder
Worldisround is a website that allows people all
over the world to share their travel photos and
impressions with each other. I'm convinced that the impulse to share is a
fundamental human trait, and a very positive one.
I believe that all human beings like to share their information, their experiences
and their perceptions (and of
course, to give advice), and that doing so
encourages other positive emotions, such as love and
altruism, and discourages negative ones, such as
fear, hate and tribalism.
Sharing with people in other countries
is especially important in the post-September-11th
environment. People around the world need to love
and understand each other more,
and I think it will help if they feel a common pride
in the beauty of the earth, and in the human capacity
to perceive and love that beauty. I also think that
sharing with people from other countries will help to
remind us that we are all the same underneath, even
though we may speak different languages, have different-colored
skin, or practice different religions.
Thank you so much for participating in Worldisround!
