- Image Hosting
-
Image hosting is a Premium account
feature which allows you to display images that you have uploaded
to Worldisround on other websites.
Here are some example uses:
- Hosting photographs of auction items (e.g. eBay, Yahoo! Auctions)
- Hosting icons and photos to display on message boards (e.g. EZBoard)
- Hosting images to display on your own website
- Enabling Image Hosting
-
Premium users automatically have image hosting enabled on all images.
View your article and click on "Image hosting info"
for the image URLs.
Image hosting is not available for free Worldisround accounts; you can link
to your homepage, article, and photo pages, but not
directly to the photo images. The best way to share your photo images is to
e-mail the photos to people.
- Finding the Hosted URL of an Image
-
To get the URLs / links for your photograph images,
view your article and click on the 'Image hosting info' link.
You will see a list of links to 'images' and 'large images'.
If the image you uploaded was larger than 600x600 pixels, the
'large image' will match the image you uploaded the the 'image' is
the downsized version that appears on photo pages.
At the moment, you can get the hosted URL for an image by replacing "/photos/"
with "/hosted/". Be careful when doing this, though, because this scheme might
change in the future.
- Image Format
-
All Worldisround photograph images are stored as JPEG.
- Hidden and Invitation-Only Articles
-
Images in hidden and invitation-only articles can be hosted.
- Troubleshooting
-
You must use the URLs beginning with "/hosted" when inserting images into other
websites. To view the "/hosted" URLs, view your article and click on "Image hosting info".
If you have a Premium account but your images are suddenly
replaced by the Worldisround placeholder image, it is probably because
you are using the wrong URLs.
Only published photos can be hosted; unpublished photos cannot be hosted and
will eventually be deleted, so remember to publish your articles.
If you alter (e.g. convert to grayscale, rotate, crop) an image, the link
for the image will remain the same but rotating and cropping the image may change
the image width and height. You may need to update your IMG tags accordingly.
