Protecting Your E-mail Address

You can keep your e-mail address hidden by disabling the 'Display your e-mail address' user account option. If you do display your e-mail address (so that visitors can contact you about your articles/photographs), we have taken measures to protect it from e-mail harvesters and your e-mail address should never be picked up by search engines.

Protecting Your Articles

Personal articles have two access control/privacy settings:

An article can be hidden so that it is not displayed on the user homepage and is excluded from search engines. Anyone who knows the URL for a hidden article can view it.
An article can also be marked as invitation-only so that only the author and people that the author has e-mailed the article to may access that article.

Travel articles are always public.

Public articles will be indexed by Web search engines, while private articles will be hidden from search engines. (more info)

There is also an Index your personal pages user account option for hiding all of your personal pages from search engines.

Clarifying Some Terminology

A public article is an article that is not hidden and not invitation-only.

A private article is an article that is hidden and/or invitation-only.

A personal article is an article that is not a travel article. (A personal article may be public or private.)
